Richard M. Ryan (1953), American psychologist and Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Rochester. His major works include Intrinsic Motivation and Self-Determination in Human Behavior (1985), Self-Determination Theory: Basic Psychological Needs in Motivation, Development and Wellness (2000), and The Oxford Handbook of Self-Determination Theory (2002, co-edited with Edward L.
